According to the Ministry of Education for Alberta Parents have the responsibility to register with a public school board or an accredited private school. This associate board or private school is responsible to support the child(ren). This support includes at least two visits per year to evaluate the performance of the child(ren). My interpretation of the Ministry website is that the parents are able to choose what the children learn and how they are evaluated, but a teacher from the associate school board or private school will do the evaluation. The information gathered is shared with parents. Parents also have the choice whether or not their children will participate in the standardized testing which happens in grades 3, 6 and 9 in Alberta.
